DEADLINE: 07 NOVEMBER 2019 IN-PERSON & ONLINE
The rapid urbanization of developing countries of Asia and Africa in the 21st Century requires a new, innovative and radical approach in the way our cities are built. Never in the history of mankind did we ever experience such rampant urbanization that resulted into urban chaos of pollution, water scarcity, traffic jams, hours of commute, and land pollution due to solid waste in dump yards. It is predicted that the world population will increase from 7 billion today to 11 billion by the end of this century, and most of this newly added 4 billion population will reside in Asian and African nations and majority of them will live in cities with million plus population. We cannot afford to repeat the past mistakes of mega cities of 20th Century industrial economy and must re-invent the way to build sustainable and climate friendly urban habitats at scale. Project HappiCities is a Moonshot that aspires to design a MicroCity and open source the entire design and technical specifications so that we "Design once and build many". Our mission is to build 1000 MicroCities in the next 100 years in India and usher a "rurban" revolution. HappiCities will be the worlds fist Open Source City Model based on the design principles of sustainability (food, water and energy), climate friendly urbanization, upgrade-able to future technologies and lifestyles, Inclusive, Accessibility and affordable. HappiCities are conceptualized to be built by crowd sourcing man, material and money by Private Companies under the PPP model with the local governing bodies like Gram and Nagar Panchayats of India. HappiCities will encourage reverse migration to villages and reduce the load on Mega Cities due to excessive migration, by bringing the urban markets and benefits to the rural citizens of India and improve the social, economic and cultural aspects of their lives. Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda are our guiding principles. For more information visit www.happicities.com and watch the video documentary on the website.
